Congress Pressures USTR to Investigate Alleged Violations of the U.S.-Japan Insurance Accords ( August 1998 )
Earlier this month, several members of Congress at the urging of certain U.S. insurance companies exerted pressure on USTR Barshefsky to review more thoroughly alleged violations of the U.S.-Japan insurance accords.<P> Under these agreements, Japanese insurance companies are prohibited from entering Japan's third sector (or specialty insurance market) until certain liberalization measures have been adopted to promote competition in the primary sectors of property and casualty insurance. -
